Academy

In addition to our extensive workshop programme, we are excited to present the GUITAR SUMMIT ACADEMY! Through this, small groups have the chance to get to grips with a variety of themes in greater depth. These masterclasses deal with topics related to playing technique, song writing, recording and marketing, and will take place in separate areas of the Mannheim Rosengarten. Please note that there is a strict limit on the number of tickets available for each masterclass.

Also, please be aware that the Guitar Summit ticket is not included in the tickets for these masterclasses, and must therefore be purchased separately.

Petteri Sariola

Petteri Sariola is a fingerstyle virtuoso and a singer-songwriter, who’s known for his fierce live performances, beautiful songwriting and percussive approach on the acoustic guitar. He picked up the six string at the age of 7, but after countless non-functional bands he ended up developing a style of his own, covering all the sounds of a full band on a steel-string acoustic while singing his heart out. No loops, no backing tracks. Sariola has released four solo albums, played almost a thousand shows touring solo around Europe, USA and Japan, and reached millions of viewers on YouTube.

If you can’t believe your ears, you can take the opportunity to attend the Guitar Summit 2019 and learn personally from Petteri in his Masterclass.

And the list of those he has worked with ranges from Udo Lindenberg, Peter Maffay, Herman Brood, Vitesse, Manfred Mann’s Earthband to Robert Palmer, Keb Mo and Eric Burdon and Mother’s Finest and can be continued at will.

Carl goes on tour again in October with his own band The Songdogs, whose core, besides Carl Carlton, includes guitarist Moses Mo and bassist Wyzard from the funk rock pioneers Mother’s Finest.

We are happy that he is taking a short break from the rehearsals for this tour to give a masterclass at the Guitar Summit! Topics will be production, songwriting and open tunings.

Marcus Deml – Bluesrock and Beyond

German blues authority Marcus Deml thrilled participants at his Guitar Summit workshop last year, offering sophisticated techniques, a refreshing approach to playing, and enlightening insights into the career and everyday life of a professional musician. As a headliner at the Electric Party, he set the Mozart Hall ablaze with a true fireworks display of blues-rock playing.

The tickets for his 2018 masterclass sold out almost right away, and what a masterclass it was! Through lively exchanges and interaction with participants, Marcus shared countless invaluable tips and tricks from his road-worn experience.

To those that missed out on this incredible opportunity, we are now very happy to announce that Marcus Deml is offering a Guitar Summit masterclass again this year!

In this four hour course, Marcus will help participants to uncover their creative potential, explaining a variety of concepts useful for both amateur musicians and professionals alike. On top of that, the masterclass will work on bridging musical styles from blues and rock to fusion.

Henrik Freischlader

Foto: Timo Wilke

If somebody asked you to think of a German guitarist who plays at the level of the world’s biggest blues-rock stars, you’d certainly think of Henrik Freischlader. The Wuppertal native is considered one of the biggest talents creating blues in the world today, so we’re extremely excited to be welcoming Henrik to this year’s Guitar Summit!

Freischlader is known for brilliantly combining virtuoso guitar playing with his sonorous, raw voice. An autodidact, he was inspired by legendary guitarists such as Gary Moore, BB King, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Rory Gallagher, which can be seen in the intuitive and playful way he works across every facet of blues, rock, funk and soul. More impressive still is that he understands both how to inspire long-time blues fans and convert young audiences to the genre.

He began playing guitar and drums at a very young age, and also plays bass and a diverse range of other instruments. He enjoyed his first successes as a guitarist and singer with various blues bands, including Lash and Bluescream.

Those who wish to be swept up by Henrik’s passionate playing and, what’s more, learn from the master himself, now have the unique opportunity of taking part in his Guitar Summit 2019 masterclass!
