On 27th – 29th September 2019, Mannheim will see the third GUITAR SUMMIT take place, an event totally dedicated to everything guitar. For the whole extended weekend of Friday to Sunday, Mannheim will become the centre of the national and international guitar world, showcasing all things electric guitar, acoustic guitar, bass, pedals, amps and accessories.

Paul Gilbert

Paul Gilbert has been among the top ten of the world’s most famous guitarists for decades. And for good reasons, as he has already recorded a considerable back catalogue in his life – from Speed Metal with Racer X to screwdriver attacks and cuddly ballads with Mr. Big to his various solo releases, which have been highly praised by critics. We are very excited to welcome Paul to the Guitar Summit 2019!

Billy Sheehan

This rock bass player has earned his place in music history several times: Billy Sheehan has played with Talas, David Lee Roth, Mr. Big, G3, Winery Dogs and Sons Of Apollo and supported guitar colleagues like Steve Vai, Paul Gilbert, Joe Satriani, Richie Kotzen and Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal – much more can hardly be achieved as a musician!
Look forward to Billy Sheehan at the Guitar Summit 2019! Billy will give a public workshop, be on stage at the Electric Party on Saturday evening and also offer an exclusive masterclass.

Henrik Freischlader

If somebody asked you to think of a German guitarist who plays at the level of the world’s biggest blues-rock stars, you’d certainly think of Henrik Freischlader. The Wuppertal native is considered one of the biggest talents creating blues in the world today, so we’re extremely excited to be welcoming Henrik to this year’s Guitar Summit!

Freischlader is known for brilliantly combining virtuoso guitar playing with his sonorous, raw voice. An autodidact, he was inspired by legendary guitarists such as Gary Moore, BB King, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Rory Gallagher, which can be seen in the intuitive and playful way he works across every facet of blues, rock, funk and soul. More impressive still is that he understands both how to inspire long-time blues fans and convert young audiences to the genre.

Carl Carlton

Guitarist, songwriter, producer, musical director … hardly any musical situation that Carl Carlton has not already held with success. And the list of those he has worked with ranges from Udo Lindenberg, Peter Maffay, Herman Brood, Vitesse, Manfred Mann’s Earthband to Robert Palmer, Keb’ Mo’, Eric Burdon and Mother’s Finest. With his own band The Songdogs, whose core, besides Carl Carlton, includes guitarist Moses Mo and bassist Wyzard from the funk rock pioneers Mother’s Finest, Carl goes on tour again in October. We are happy that he takes a short break from the rehearsals for this tour to give a workshop and a masterclass at the Guitar Summit! Topics will be production, songwriting and open tunings.

Udo Pipper

Vintage expert and Gitarre & Bass author Udo Pipper shows in his limited masterclass how to find the perfect setup for your favorite guitar. He shows how to create the optimal potential out of every guitar and presents ways and tools for it. Because in almost every instrument there are qualities slumbering, which unfortunately often remain hidden.

Peter Finger

At the Guitar Summit Peter Finger – acoustic guitarist, guitar builder and publisher of the magazine ‘Akustik Gitarre’ – will give more detailed insights into his playing in two workshops and a masterclass.

In his first workshop on Saturday, 28.09.2019 at 15:30, Peter Finger will open “the world of Open Tunings” to the participants. In addition to the standard guitar tuning, there are numerous alternative tunings with which you can create fascinating sounds. Peter gives some examples and shows how to avoid beginners mistakes.

The topic of his second workshop on Sunday, 29.09.2019 at 17 o’clock is “Playing guitar with expression”. This is about how to give a piece more expression through dynamics and tone shaping. Peter will highlight the development from a picking instrumental to a piece of music.

Alexandr Misko

Alex without doubt is one of the most sought-after fingerstyle guitarists in the last two years. Not least his numerous gigs, which are distributed around almost the whole world, show this. Most recently, the 21-year-old exceptional guitarist from Russia played a long and very successful China tour. In 2016 his debut album was released on CD, exclusively with his own compositions. Since the end of December 2017 his current album is available. Another one with popular cover songs is only available via online download. Alex is currently reaching more than 46 million views on his YouTube channel.

In his workshop, Alex will talk about his great passion: how to arrange a piece on a guitar, making it sound like a rock band or even as an orchestra. Alex is a sound innovator who can elicit as many different sounds as possible from all parts of his guitar. And if that’s not enough, then he gets help from his pedalboard. Of course, he will give you examples and, moreover, give all visitors the opportunity to ask any questions.

Janek Pentz

This young Polish composer and guitarist combines all his musical influences in the fingerstyle. They range from hard rock music to gentle classical music. He was a laureate of many prestigious competitions. His music consists on the one hand of fast and dynamic harmonies, on the other hand also of calm and peaceful passages, an effect of his thoroughly philosophical reflections. Janek accompanied guitar legend Tommy Emmanuel during his tour of Poland in 2017 and has already shared the stage with many international artists.

In his workshop, Janek talks about the music and its philosophical vein, which is clearly recognizable in it. He will talk about his way of composing and how he has worked out his own musical language. At any time underlaid with music examples and of course the opportunity for the audience to ask questions. Bring your questions and experience this young artist from close up.

Marcus Deml

German blues authority Marcus Deml thrilled participants at his Guitar Summit workshop last year, offering sophisticated techniques, a refreshing approach to playing, and enlightening insights into the career and everyday life of a professional musician. As a headliner at the Electric Party, he set the Mozart Hall ablaze with a true fireworks display of blues-rock playing.

The tickets for his 2018 masterclass sold out almost right away, and what a masterclass it was! Through lively exchanges and interaction with participants, Marcus shared countless invaluable tips and tricks from his road-worn experience.

To those that missed out on this incredible opportunity, we are now very happy to announce that Marcus Deml is offering two Guitar Summit masterclasses and a public workshop again this year!

Yoga for musicians with Jonas Hellborg & Pressiana

At the Guitar Summit 2019 bass legend Jonas Hellborg and experienced yoga teacher Pressiana will merge their experience and present a unique concept about the parallels of yoga and music. It will be about methods and ideas that change your mindfulness and understanding of body, instrument, mind and music to unfold your creative potential.

For optimal benefit, we recommend to bring a yoga mat; a few mats are also available on site. The two-hour workshop starts on Sunday morning.

Ukulele Workshop für Anfänger

Rüdiger Eisenhauer will be running ukulele workshops for both beginners and advanced students throughout the weekend. Here you´ll get the knowledge that will help you to develop your skills in self-study. Once starting to play your first chords, you´ll easily get addicted to it! If we got your attention, stop by Ortega Guitars – a registration is not necessary. Have fun!

Guitar Summit Academy

In addition to our extensive workshop programme, we are excited to present the GUITAR SUMMIT ACADEMY! Through this, small groups have the chance to get to grips with a variety of themes in greater depth. These masterclasses deal with topics related to playing technique, song writing, recording and marketing, and will take place in separate areas of the Mannheim Rosengarten. Please note that there is a strict limit on the number of tickets available for each masterclass.

For each Masterclass there will be only a strictly limited number of tickets. Further information and tickets can be found at:
